- Depression
- Renal failure
- Medications such as aspirin, lithium, amiodarone, interferon, calcium, iron, aluminum
- Pregnancy (fetal hypothyroidism and abnormal development)
- Oral estrogen, which can result in increased thyroid-binding globulin (TBG), leading to lower bioavailable thyroxine (T4)
